Mount Agung Forest Fire Reaches 100 Hectares

A fire on the slopes of Mount Agung, at an altitude of 2,000 meters, has burned about 100 hectares of land. The fire, which started on Sunday, October 13, is difficult to control because the area is hard to reach. There are six fire spots, and joint teams are working to stop it from spreading to nearby villages.

Bali's Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is considering using helicopters for water bombing or weather modification to control the fire. A team of six officers went to the site, joining other teams (police, military, volunteers), but the steep slopes make it dangerous and difficult to access.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it could be from cigarette butts or friction between trees. Some tourists were also reported trapped by the fire, but they were rescued safely. Climbing the mountain has been stopped for now.
