Big Changes to Bali’s Immigration Laws Could Bring Severe Penalties for Tourists
wbragin 14-Oct, 16:30 0 Indonesia NewsNew immigration rules in Indonesia could result in serious consequences for tourists who break the law. This includes visa violations, overstaying, or committing other legal offenses. The changes come as the Indonesian government tightens its approach to handling foreign visitors, particularly in popular tourist spots like Bali.

So far in 2024, over 400 people have been deported from Bali for breaking immigration laws. Now, with new regulations in place, those caught violating the rules could face much harsher penalties, including up to 20 years in prison or even life sentences for serious crimes.
One area the government is focusing on is the misuse of investment visas. Many foreigners have taken advantage of these visas to stay longer without meeting the proper criteria. By the end of 2024, foreigners will need to increase their investment capital from Rp 1 billion to Rp 10 billion to qualify for these visas.
To enforce the new laws, Bali has increased its immigration patrols, with more officers and vehicles deployed across the island. Some officers are even allowed to carry firearms for safety when dealing with dangerous criminals.
These new immigration rules aim to keep Bali safe and ensure that all visitors follow the laws while enjoying their stay in Indonesia.
