Indian Tourist Swept Away by Waves Found Deceased

The evacuation of Nilesh Mukhi's body after it was found at Nusa Dua Beach, following his fall from the cliffs in Nusa Penida.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Nusa Penida Police handed over the body of Nilesh Mukhi, a 59-year-old Indian man who tragically fell from the cliffs at Angel's Billabong. This unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. His body was discovered and subsequently received at Ngoerah Hospital on Friday, October 18, around 1:10 PM.

Nilesh Mukhi's body was found at Nusa Dua Beach, approximately 1.5 miles from the shore, after he was swept away by strong waves while enjoying a day at Angel's Billabong around 10:45 AM. His son, Yash Mukhi, displayed remarkable strength during this difficult time as he received the body. Iptu Agus Widiono, a spokesperson for the Klungkung Police, confirmed that the handover included a letter from Yash Mukhi stating that the family would not pursue legal action regarding Nilesh's death. “The letter was signed on Friday, October 18, 2024, in Denpasar,” he explained.

This tragic incident highlights the unpredictable power of nature, particularly in beautiful locations. In light of recent events, I Nengah Mudiana, a member of the DPRD Klungkung, brought attention to the need for enhanced safety measures. He urged the installation of fences or safety ropes on accident-prone beaches, noting, “The discussion about adding safety measures has been ongoing for quite some time and is often revisited.”

If immediate installation of safety ropes or fences is not feasible, Mudiana suggested having an officer on duty at tourist sites to remind solo tourists to remain cautious. Frequent marine accidents can severely damage the area's tourism reputation, and Mudiana emphasized, “Ensuring safety must remain a top priority.”

Ni Made Sulistiawati, the Head of Klungkung Tourism, confirmed that plans are in place to gradually improve safety across all tourist sites, including the installation of safety fences in accident-prone areas. One such location with safety ropes is Devil Tears Beach in Desa Lembongan, Nusa Penida.
