Australian Teacher Accused of Laptop Theft in Bali

An Australian teacher, Vanessa Louise Crimmins, 45, may face up to five years in jail after being accused of stealing two laptops from a supermarket in Bali.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning outside the Popular Deli, a supermarket in North Kuta, where two shoppers left their backpacks with laptops in the sitting area. When they returned, the bags were gone. Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified Crimmins as the suspect.

If charged under Indonesian law, Crimmins could receive a five-year prison sentence. However, if the victims choose to forgive her, she might be released under a unique aspect of the Indonesian justice system.
