Increased Fees for Climbing Mount Ijen and Rinjani Volcano

Starting October 30, visiting Indonesia's popular volcanoes, Mount Ijen and Mount Rinjani, will be more expensive due to increased entrance fees and new regulations. After being closed for several months due to volcanic activity, Mount Ijen has reopened with fees for foreign tourists set at 150,000 IDR. Domestic tourists pay 20,000 IDR on weekdays and 30,000 IDR on weekends. Student groups enjoy even lower rates, but all climbers must now have insurance, priced at an additional 20,000 IDR. Other small fees apply for camping and parking, with charges even including bicycles and horses.

Mount Rinjani on Lombok has also increased its fees. Foreign tourists now pay 200,000 IDR to hike to the summit, while locals are charged 20,000 IDR. An entrance fee of 150,000 IDR still applies for those only visiting the national park. Known for its stunning views, Rinjani's crater lake, hot springs, and active caldera make it a unique destination for hikers from around the world.
